Sim cards

In general, tariffs (as opposed to neighboring Asian states) are expensive. The international phone number for Singapore is 65. The 3 major operators include SingTel, StarHub, and MobileOne (M1). Coverage is excellent throughout the country. For example, you can get prepaid SIM cards in 7-Eleven stores, phone shops, and exchange offices. You must still present your passport when making your purchase.

A local phone call costs between $ 0.05 – $ 0.25 / minute, while a local text message (SMS) about $ 0.05. For an international call from Singapore, dial access code 001 (SingTel), 002 (M1), and 008 (StarHub), followed by the country code, postal code, and area number.

Public telephones can be found at most MRT stations.

Internet

Internet cafes are not so widespread here, as local residents have access to the Internet at home, at work, or at school. But if you need the internet, go to Little India or suburban centers. Public libraries offer Internet access at 0.03 SGD / minute or 1.8 SGD / hour.

The nationwide free Wireless @ SG system is up and running and visitors can use it. However, they must register and receive a password via email or mobile phone. For a current list of hotspots, visit the Infocomm Development Authority. Among other things, free wifi offers McDonald’s, Coffee Bean and Starbucks.

Electricity

In Singapore, there are plugs and sockets of type G. The standard voltage is 240 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.

Type G – this type is of British origin. The socket only works with a G connector.

Post Service – SingPost

SingPost has offices throughout the island with opening hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm on weekdays and from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm on Saturdays. Closed on Sundays. Changi Airport T2 is open daily from 06:00 to 23:59, while Killeney Rd is open until 21:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 16:00 on Sundays. Postcards cost 50 cents and postage stamps can be purchased from self-service SAM machines at many MRT stations.

Small packages up to 2kg cost $ 3.50 / per 100g (by plane). If you would like to send larger packages, you can use DHL.
