SIM cards

They can buy at all airports at very low prices. You can ask the seller to activate the sim card directly, which takes about 2 minutes. You do not have to fill in any forms. You only submit your passport, as dealers are legally required to register users.

Major operators in Malaysia are Maxis, Celcom, Digi, and U Mobile. Other providers mostly offer limited services in specific areas. Of the top four, Maxis has the largest coverage, followed by Celcom and Digi and finally U Mobile. Maxis has the prepaid service “Hotlink” and Celcom has “Xpax“.

Our experience:

The Hotlink (Maxis) SIM card itself was 10MYR (approx. 50 CZK). The package with 6GB of data costs 35 MYR and valid for 30 days. At the same time, the package included unlimited use of social or chat applications.

Electricity

The Malaysian network has a voltage of 240 V and a frequency of 50 Hz. The sockets are similar to the UK – three rectangular pins with a hexagonal bush, so you will need an adapter. However, you may encounter more modern sockets so you don´t need the adapter (see picture).

Post office service

Pos Malaysia Berhard in Malaysia is incredibly cheap. The opening hours are daily from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, closed on Sundays and holidays. (on Friday and closed in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu).

Postcard – 50 sen (CZK 2.5) to any destination
Letters weighing 10g or less – costing 55 sen to Asia, Australia or New Zealand
Letters weighing 10g or less – costing 90 sen to the UK and Europe
Letters weighing 10g or less – costing 1.10 RM to North America

Sending packages is simple and the prices are very favorable. There is also the possibility of purchasing boxes of different sizes.

Our experience:

At the end of October, we sent home to Bohemia a few things weighing around 3,200g. We bought the box here. You have the choice to send it by air or boat. By air, it is faster but more expensive and the boat is slower but cheaper. The ship is delivered in 1 month (max. up to 2 months). Actually, we didn´t care when the package arrived, we chose a boat and the price was with a box for 81,50 RM (about 440 CZK).

Before sending, you have to fill in the form in which you enter your address from Malaysia, the address of the recipient, and write the contents of the package. You get the copy of the form and the original form stays in the post office.
